October 2011 NEW GLOBAL HEADQUARTERS AND LOGISTICS CENTRE FOR A J WALTER AVIATION ‘breaks ground’ AT SLINFOLD
After several months’ demolition and site preparation, the construction phase for AJW’s new headquarters begins in record time.
The Company’s successful growth programme means gearing up for more staff and providing warehouse capacity to house additional inventories to service new customers.
A J Walter Aviation’s new campus will see the development of a significant global HQ and logistics centre close to Gatwick Airport in the UK. The site is on a footprint of over 60 acres and will initially provide over 240,000 square feet of purpose-built office and storage facilities for AJW’s extensive range of Airbus and Boeing components, engines and consumables. “It will provide a first class experience for visitors and employees will benefit from modern, streamlined and efficient office layouts, a training ‘theatre’, on-site catering and restaurant, as well as outstanding sports and leisure facilities, and guest accommodation” enthuses Christopher Whiteside, President of A J Walter Aviation, as the Company is already set to chart another record-breaking year.
“We are spearheading a global strategy designed to deliver exponential growth for the business” says Andy Smith, Logistics Director of A J Walter Aviation. “Our future path will demand facilities of the highest standard and the only way to ensure all of our technical, organisational and social priorities are met is to design and build our own exceptional environment.”
Roy Jones, Project Manager at McLaren Construction, who is supervising the project on site added “All of the aggregates from the existing buildings are being recycled to reduce CO² emissions and traffic congestion and we will be installing renewable energy sources on site. We are committed to achieving the highest BREEAM* rating possibly through the implementation of best practice in sustainable building design, construction and operation. We’re delighted to say that we are ahead of schedule and AJW’s impressive new UK campus facility will open in Summer 2012.”
